Grave searches
If you want to locate a grave within one of our cemeteries, either for a future visit or an imminent interment, you can request a grave search.
If you are planning a visit to one of our cemeteries, you must give enough notice for us to carry out a grave search. A search can take up to 5 working days to complete, but at busier times it may take longer.
Please bear this in mind when planning your visit as we may not be able to complete searches on the day.
Genealogy and family history searches
We must prioritise imminent burial and cremation duties and have limited availability for assisting with research for family history or genealogy enquiries.
If you are carrying out this kind of research, please use the Record Office at Liverpool Central Library, or online resources. The Record Office has a research service which helps with family history searches for a fee.
How to request a grave search
You can submit a grave search enquiry online to request a search or if you have any queries about grave searches.
A fee of £21 per year, per cemetery searched may apply to the search request. When we review your enquiry we will let you know the cost and how to pay.
Grave searches for funeral directors or monumental masons are free of charge as these are normally required for an imminent burial.
Before you start, you will need to provide:
- Full names of the deceased
- Date of death - if you are unable to provide the date of death, additional fees will apply to carry out a multi-year search. To reduce fees, we advise you to provide at least the year of death.
Read our privacy notice which tells you how we use your data.
What happens next?
We aim to respond to your enquiry within 5 working days with details of how much the search will cost. If you are happy for us to carry out the search, we will tell you how to pay and how long the search will take to complete - usually up to 5 working days.
