Wraparound childcare places

Wraparound childcare is for primary-school-aged children before and after the school day during term time. From September 2024, you can expect to see more wraparound places in Liverpool.

What is wraparound childcare?

Wraparound childcare is before-school care that starts no later than 8am, and after-school care that runs until 6pm or later. It is designed to:

  • help parents return to work or study
  • support vulnerable children
  • offer activities that children enjoy
  • offer a ‘soft’ start to the school day that encourages attendance

These places are different from school clubs or out-of-school activities which are less frequent or sometimes a one-off.

How much do places cost?

Childcare providers set their own fees, so prices vary.

If you are eligible, you will be able to use Tax-Free Childcare (childcarechoices.gov.uk) or Universal Credit Childcare (childcarechoices.gov.uk) to help pay for a place.

Check if you are entitled to help with childcare (childcarechoices.gov.uk)
