The Active Travel Routes Vauxhall Road consultation ran in September and October 2024.

We asked

We asked for your views on proposals to create an improved, continuous, one-way cycle path on both sides of Vauxhall Road and Commercial Road with fully resurfaced footways. 

The plans also proposed to separate pedestrians, cyclists and motorised traffic from each other using kerbs for most of the route. New dedicated controlled crossings were also proposed at existing signalised junctions, with new pedestrian and cycle crossings at various points on the route.

This scheme is part of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority’s ambition to create 600km of Active Travel infrastructure throughout the region, to better connect communities, provide a wider range of safe travel choices, reduce congestion and improve health.

You said

Respondents to the public consultation were overall in favour of the proposed scheme and all the individual elements of the scheme that were consulted on.

A total of 93 responses were received via the online survey, at the in-person events or by direct email to Liverpool City Council. A total of 81% of respondents agreed or strongly agreed that the scheme should be progressed.

Consultees were asked their views on two potential improvement options for the Commercial Road/Sandhills Lane/Lambeth Road junction. Most respondents (53%) indicated their preference for the option that realigns Sandhills Lane and Lambeth Road to create an improved junction for pedestrians, cyclists and all motorised traffic. This option requires some adjustments to adjacent public open space.

The consultation reached a wide range of stakeholders, and all feedback will be considered at the detailed design and implementation stages.
