Amalgamation of St Cecilia's infant and junior schools

We asked

We asked to seek approval to publish statutory proposals to amalgamate St Cecilia's Infant School and St Cecilia's Junior School.

The consultation took place between 12th June and 21st July 2023. A consultation leaflet was circulated to all staff, parents, carers and governors of the school, with details of how to respond.

Local councillors, MPs, trade unions, archdiocese and local primary schools were also contacted. Details of the consultation was posted on both school websites and the council website. Meetings were held at the school for parents, staff and governors.

We received four responses in total. Three supported the amalgamation, with one incomplete reply.

We did

As a result, we presented a report to Cabinet on 19th September 2023 seeking approval to post the statutory notice.

Next steps

After posting the statutory notice, there is a representative period of four weeks between 26th September and 24th October 2024. The results will be included in a report to Cabinet to take the final decision to close the infant and junior schools, and a related proposal by the archdiocese to open an amalgamated all-through primary school.
