Data protection and freedom of information

Freedom of Information requests

The Freedom of Information (FOI) Act 2000 gives you the right to request access to recorded information held by the Liverpool Council.

The Information Commissioner's Office provides guidance about how to access information from a public authority, or you can read a guide to making a freedom of information request on GOV.UK.

Make an online request for information

Before you make a request, please search this website and our publication scheme to see if the information you need is already available. We also publish selected FoI responses.

If you still can't find the information you need, please make a Freedom of Information request using our online form below. This is the most efficient way to ask us for information.

Make a request for information online

If you would like to receive our response in another format, for example, braille or large print, please let us know when you submit your request.

If you are not happy with the outcome of a request, you can contact the Information Commissioner's Office.

Other ways to make a request

The most efficient way to ask us for information is by using the online form above. However, you can also email us at informationrequests@liverpool.gov.uk.

Alternatively, you can write to us at Freedom of Information Requests, 4th Floor, Cunard Building, Water Street, Liverpool, L3 1AH.

What happens next?

We have up to 20 working days to respond to requests, but we will respond as soon as we can. If your request is unclear, we will contact you to find out exactly what information you are looking for.

If there is a reason why we need to refuse or partially refuse your request, we will explain why in our response. More information about why a request may be refused, can be found in the Information Commissioners Office guidance.
