Hygiene in food outlets

We inspect food premises to ensure they comply with food health and safety standards, either as part of our programme of inspections or in response to a complaint. We usually turn up at food establishments without prior notice.

• Food hygiene ratings Liverpool uses the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme to rate the hygiene standards of the places where you eat or shop for food.
• Report a food premises hygiene issue We only investigate food safety matters that present a significant risk to public health.
• Report suspected food poisoning If you believe you have contracted food poisoning from a food establishment in Liverpool, and have had the case confirmed, report it.
• Report a food product issue Find out what to do if your food complaint presents a serious health risk and meets our investigation criteria.
