St James Gardens
These sunken, secluded cemetery gardens are a little oasis of peace alongside Liverpool's magnificent Anglican Cathedral. Grade I listed by English Heritage, the garden is an ideal place to relax and take in the beauty of the historical architecture which surrounds it.

The main entrance to the garden is off Upper Duke Street. You can also access the gardens from the south entrance near Upper Parliament Street.

Historic features
The park was formerly a cemetery, and a stone path lined with recycled grave stones descends through a short tunnel on entrance to the garden, between the Oratory and the main entrance of the cathedral.

- Stone arch between the Garden Lodge and the steps up to the Mount
- Huskisson memorial
- A natural spring
- A system of broad ramps lined with catacombs
