Call for sites
The call for sites offers landowners, site promoters, developers, and the local community, the chance to tell us about sites that could be developed to meet local needs.
You can submit a call for sites from 16th September to 8th December 2024.
What type of sites can I suggest?
Sites can be put forward for any use. This can include:
- housing
- industrial and commercial development
- retail and leisure
- culture and tourism
- community use
- environmental benefit
The call for sites process is separate to the planning application process. If you submit a site for consideration, there is no guarantee that it can be used for the purpose you propose.
How do I suggest a site?
To propose a site you believe is suitable and available for development, please complete our call for sites form below.
You do not need to be the owner of the site to put it forward for development. But it would be helpful if you know the details of the site owners and if they support its proposed development.
If you do not know who the owners are, you can contact the Land Registry.
Before you begin
Before you complete a form, you will need:
- A site location plan, such as an Ordnance Survey location plan, to a recognised scale with site boundaries and surrounding buildings. The site boundary must be edged with a red line.
- Details of any constraints that may affect development for the proposed use, and upload copies of any survey work or plans that address these issues.
Please submit one form for each site you want to propose.
The closing date is 8th December 2024.
Read our privacy notice which tells you how we use your data.
How are sites assessed?
The call for sites will not determine whether a site should be allocated for a particular use. It is a technical exercise aimed at identifying the potential of sites for different allocations.
We will carefully assess each site:
- to see if it is suitable
- to see if the proposed use is achievable
- to determine if it is available for development
- against national and local planning policy
The assessment will take into account planning policy, the environment and any local constraints. We will also consider how any constraints can be mitigated or addressed.
We will assess potential housing sites to see if they can be included in our Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA). The SHLAA looks at how much land is available for housing. However, this does not guarantee that the site will be granted planning permission.
What happens next?
We will assess all submitted sites. Where appropriate, we will include them in one of our evidence-based studies or the new Local Plan itself.
