Call it. Enjoy more. Drink less.

How the law is enforced

A great night out should be fun, safe, and something you actually remember. But we also know that when drinking goes too far, it places real pressure on our city.

Alcohol harms contribute to thousands of hospital admissions and more than 8,000 alcohol-related crimes in Liverpool each year, putting big demands on health services, police, and communities.

Alcohol also plays a role in a significant number of violent incidents in the city centre, which can mean a night out ends in the emergency department, or even a police cell. Keeping people safe is a team effort, and one of the simplest ways to reduce harm is knowing when to call it and help someone slow down.

That’s why local bars, pubs, and clubs are supported to refuse service when someone is clearly drunk. By stepping in early, you’re helping people stay safe, avoid harm, and enjoy more of their night.

Merseyside Police continue to enforce licensing laws designed to protect the public. This includes responding to alcohol-related incidents and issuing Fixed Penalty Notices where offences occur.

When we call it early, look out for one another, and support responsible service, we’re all helping create safer nights across Merseyside, so everyone can enjoy more and drink less.
