Get active
Discover simple ways to move more every day and find support to help you get active.
Being active boosts your confidence, energy and mood while protecting you against long-term illnesses like heart disease, diabetes and Alzheimer's.
You don’t need to run marathons to be active. Everyday activities like walking, cycling or gardening all count, as long as they raise your heart rate and increase your breathing.
Tips for being more active
Start small
If you’re not very active at the moment, it’s easier to start out small and increase activity slowly. Aim to do at least 10 minutes of activity and then build up each day.
Walk more
Walking puts less pressure on your joints than running or high-impact activities. Plus being outdoors and taking in the scenery is good for your mental health.
Form good habits
Add movement to your daily routine. Take the stairs instead of the lift or get off one stop early on your bus or train route to walk the rest of the way.
