Tips for a happy mum and baby
Be active
Moving more works wonders for your physical and mental health. Being active helps pump oxygen around your body and gives your baby a boost that can help them grow.
Don't drink alcohol
Official medical advice is to avoid alcohol altogether. Drinking alcohol increases the risk of miscarriage, premature birth and low birth weight. It can also cause your baby health problems such as liver damage, epilepsy, and learning and behavioural difficulties.
Quit smoking
Smoking during pregnancy increases the risk of stillbirth, miscarriage and premature birth. Smoking sends harmful chemicals to your baby, depriving them of oxygen and forcing their tiny heart to beat faster.
Eat well
Your baby will benefit from healthier foods and nutrients, so it’s important to try to make nutritious choices where you can while pregnant.
Try not to worry
Being pregnant puts a strain on both your body and your mind. It’s completely normal to feel a bit stressed or worried. To keep from feeling overwhelmed, remember to make time for yourself and ask for help when you need it.
