Tree Preservation Order schedule lists

The below datasets contains polygons representing Tree Preservation Order (TPO) schedule items within the Liverpool City Council area.

TPOs are issued by the local planning authority to safeguard individual trees, groups of trees, or woodlands that contribute significantly to public amenity. Written consent from Liverpool City Council is required before undertaking any work such as pruning, lopping, or removal of protected trees.

Applications for tree works can be submitted online via the Planning Portal. To determine whether a tree is protected, users can consult the interactive Protected Tree Portal, which provides access to the register of TPOs and mapping tools for locating protected trees

If a tree is dead or poses a danger, consent may not be required, but the Council must still be contacted to confirm the exemption applies.

It is a legal offence to carry out unauthorised work on a protected tree without written permission from Liverpool City Council. Further details on the legislation and responsibilities surrounding TPOs and trees in conservation areas can be found in the Planning Practice Guidance published by the UK Government

Liverpool is one of the Local Planning Authorities that received Government funding to improve their planning services through the Local Digital Fund. This aims to digitise Planning to make land and housing data easier to find, understand, use and trust.
