How to help prevent excess cold
Extreme cold creates a range of health issues, especially in young children or elderly people. Find out how to help keep your tenants warm.
A safe temperature in the home is between 18-21°C. Internal temperatures below 16°C substantially increase the risk of health issues, especially in young children or elderly people. Cold homes also increase the likelihood of damp or mould growth.
Some things to consider:
- Insulation – adequate external and internal insulation will reduce cold spots and heat loss.
- Efficiency – check your EPC to see how the energy efficiency of your property can improve.
- Heating systems – well-maintained, controllable heating systems should be installed that are appropriate for the size of the property.
- Ventilation – ventilation is important, but too much can create excess cold.
