Sports equipment small grant
We are looking to award grants for sports equipment to under 15s grassroots sports clubs. The total amount of funding available is £2,000, with four clubs chosen to receive £500 each.
Who can apply?
Because the grant is a small amount it has been restricted to the top five wards in Liverpool with the highest child poverty rates.
Your organisation must be based in one of the wards below, or whose beneficiaries are from those wards:
- Kensington and Fairfield
- Norris Green
- Anfield
- Speke
- Princes Park
You must also be able to answer yes to all of the following to be eligible to apply:
- Is your organisation based in Liverpool?
- Is your organisation a voluntary, charity, faith or social enterprise sector organisation?
- Does your organisation have all relevant policies and procedures in place?
- Do all the staff and volunteers in your organisation who are in contact with children and young people or vulnerable adults, have enhanced DBS checks?
- Does your organisation have all relevant insurances in place?
- Does your organisation have an up-to-date governing document?
- Does your organisation have an active business bank account in the name of the organisation?
You must also be able to answer no to the following:
- Does your organisation intend to use this funding to promote political parties?
- Does your organisation intend to use this funding to either practise or promote religion or religious beliefs?
If you meet the criteria above and can provide the relevant proof you can submit an application. We will only accept one application per organisation.

All applications must be received by 12 noon, Monday 31st March 2025.
What happens next?
We will carry out due diligence on all eligible applications using the UK Civil Service's Spotlight system.
These will be scored by officers from the council's Sports and Leisure team panel and moderated to give an overall score. The panel will discuss the applications and make recommendations.
Scores are a guide but are not our only consideration. We will also consider factors such as institutional knowledge about the applicant and geographical spread of applications. We retain the right to consider any information we view as relevant when awarding grants.
The Strategic Physical Activity and Sport Development Manager will make all funding decisions which are final.
Unsuccessful applicants will not have the right of appeal.
We will notify successful applicants by Tuesday 6th May 2025.
