Pay for council services

Pay online

We accept Visa Credit, Visa Debit, UK Maestro, International Maestro, Mastercard, Electron and JCB and you must be registered with 3D Secure 2 (also known as Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode) for your payment to be authorised.

One-off payments

If we have sent you a letter or bill requesting payment for any of the services listed below, you can pay online using the links given. You will need the reference or account number from your bill or invoice.

Other council services

If you are applying for or requesting a council service which isn't listed above, we will take your payment online as part of the application process. If the process is not online or you wish to pay another way, we will provide details on the service information page.

Other ways to pay

Direct Debit

Direct Debit is an easy way of making regular payments to us. You can set up a Direct Debit to pay for the following services:

Post Office or PayPoint outlet

You can pay bills with a barcode on them, including Business Rates and Council Tax bills and Housing Benefit overpayments, at any local Post Office or PayPoint outlet - there are over 400 locations across the city.

Phone payments

You can pay Business Rates, Council Tax, Housing Benefit overpayments and parking fines by calling our 24-hour automated payment line on 0800 023 7082, using the payment cards listed at the top of this page.

If you wish to speak to an adviser, we can take payments over the phone by calling 0151 233 3050. This option is available 8am-6pm Monday to Friday. We recommend you pay online where possible, as lines may be busy.
