Young Futures Apprenticeship Programme

Are you leaving school, college, training or searching for your first job? Our Young Futures Apprenticeship Programme could offer you a career with us. Find out more about the range of Young Futures apprenticeship roles in the council and how to apply.

Who can apply? 

To apply for an apprenticeship with the Young Futures Apprenticeship Programme, you must: 

  • be a Liverpool resident, or a Liverpool City Council care leaver if you currently live outside the city
  • be aged 16-20 year old — or aged up 24 years of age if you have an EHCP or you are care experienced
  • have a legal right to work in the UK
  • meet the requirements for a apprenticeship, including UK residency requirements
  • be willing to work towards Functional Skills qualifications if you do not currently hold a GCSE Grade 4/C in English and Maths

We've made applying simple. Apply once, then get matched to one of our roles across housing, culture, environment, digital, health and social care.

All applications must be received by 1st September 2026.

If we shortlist your application, we will invite you to an assessment session in September 2026. If you are accepted on the programme, you will start your apprenticeship in October 2026.

What salary and benefits will I get?

If your application is successful and you are offered an apprenticeship, you will have a real job from day one. This means you will:

  • earn a salary of £24,547 from your first day 
  • work 35-hours a week — this includes paid learning time
  • gain a qualification recognised across the UK
  • get 27 days annual leave, plus bank holidays
  • access employee benefits and wellbeing support
  • join our Early Careers Network and meet other staff members 
  • build experience with one of the largest employers in the city

This programme helps young people who can find it harder to get into employment and training. 

We based our decision on who can apply on evidence about employment in Liverpool, and our commitment to helping local people get good jobs.

This decision supports the aims of our Council Plan to create opportunities, improve life chances and improve communities across Liverpool. 

This programme does not replace other apprenticeships. We will continue to advertise apprenticeship roles that anyone can apply for, no matter their age or where they live.
