No side waste collections
We do not collect extra bags of general waste or recycling left at the kerbside next to your bin on collection day. This is part of our commitment to reduce the amount of waste in the city that could otherwise be recycled.
Purple bin - additional waste
We will only collect waste placed inside the correct wheeled bin and lids must be closed. If side waste is presented, we will empty the wheeled bin and place any side waste back into your bin. You will need to manage this waste until your next scheduled collection date. We will place a reminder sticker on the bin.
Side waste includes:
- Extra black bags
- Small items of furniture
- Individual items of rubbish
If all household rubbish is correctly sorted into the appropriate bins, there should be no need to present additional bags or items.
Blue bin - additional recycling
If you regularly collect more recycling than your blue bin can hold you can order an additional bin for your household.
- Before throwing items away, check which bin they should go in.
- Donate unwanted clothes, books and furniture to charity shops - most charity shops collect larger items free of charge.
- Make use of our free bulky item collection service.
- Take additional waste and recycling to your local recycling centre.
Repeat instances of side waste being presented could result in enforcement action and the issue of a fixed penalty notice.
