Terminal illness discount
You can apply for a council tax discount if you have a terminal illness diagnosis or live with someone who has.
Who can apply?
You may qualify for a council tax discount if:
- you're terminally ill
- your partner is terminally ill
- a family member, including a child, is terminally ill
Your property must be within the Liverpool City Council area and be billed for council tax by us.
You must also have been issued with an SR1 (Special Rules 1) form, which confirms a terminal illness diagnosis. Find more about the SR1 form on the Marie Curie website.
How to apply
Email us at benefitsservicesautomation@liverpool.gov.uk@liverpool.gov.uk and:
- attach an image, or scanned copy, of both sides of the completed SR1 form
- include the council tax reference number for the property — it's on any letter about your council tax
- include your home address if you can't find the council tax reference number
If you are unable to attach a copy of the SR1 form, we can request a copy of it from the registered medical practitioner who issued it, if we have the authority to do so.
Read our privacy notice which tells you how we use your data.
What happens next?
Once you've completed your application we'll get in touch.
