Council Tax discount for religious communities

If you are 18 or over and an active member of a religious community we won’t count you for Council Tax purposes if you meet both of the following criteria:

  • You have no income or capital of your own and are dependent on the religious community for support. We will ignore any pension from a previous job.
  • Your religious community is mainly involved in prayer, contemplation, the relief of suffering, education or any combination of these.

We will reduce your bill by 25% but not if there are still two or more people in the household who are counted for Council Tax purposes.
