Council Tax

Terminal illness discount

You can apply for a council tax discount if you have a terminal illness diagnosis or live with someone who has.

Who can apply?

You may qualify for a council tax discount if:

  • you're terminally ill
  • your partner is terminally ill
  • a family member, including a child, is terminally ill

Your property must be within the Liverpool City Council area and be billed for council tax by us.

You must also have been issued with an SR1 (Special Rules 1) form, which confirms a terminal illness diagnosis. Find more about the SR1 form on the Marie Curie website

How to apply

You can apply online below. Please have the following information ready before you start:

  • an image or scanned copy of both sides of the completed SR1 form
  • council tax reference number for the property — it's on any letter about your council tax
  • your home address if you can't find the council tax reference number

If you are unable to attach a copy of the SR1 form, we can request a copy of it from the registered medical practitioner who issued it, if you give your consent on the form.
