Removing items from street lights

We recognise the importance of the the Union flag and flag of St George's as symbols of national pride, and we proudly fly the Union flag from public buildings, including the Town Hall.

However, any unauthorised attachments to street furniture - such as street lights - could cause a serious safety risk to road users.  If they are not secured properly, they could cause an accident, and the placement of items could reduce visibility on the road.

Our policy is to remove any unauthorised banners, flags or items from public assets that pose a safety risk to pedestrians, cyclists or vehicles.

This is part of our routine maintenance programme, and items that pose a risk to public safety will be prioritised for removal.

If you see items attached to street lights that look unsafe, you can tell us by using the street light report form.

Any actions we take are based solely on ensuring public safety.
