Street light faults
We look after most street lights on public roads and parks in Liverpool. If you see a broken light in these areas, please report it to us. We do not fix lights on private roads, in retail parks, or on private land. For lights inside bus shelters, please contact Merseytravel.
What you can report
Tell us if you see a street light that is:
- not lit at night
- flashing or flickering
- permanently lit
- too bright
- not bright enough
Is it an emergency?
If a street light has a broken post or door, exposed wires, or the light cover is hanging off, these are a priority for us to fix.
To report an emergency call 0151 233 3001.
If there is no immediate risk, please report it online.
If you are not sure if the fault you are reporting is an emergency, see 'how to identify a lighting emergency' before contacting us.
How to report it
Report non-emergency issues online — please attach a photo if you can.
- If you have a 'My Account', sign in to track your report. If not, you can create one.
- You can submit your report without an account, but please leave your contact details if you want updates.
- If the issue is already reported, you can subscribe to get updates.
Read our privacy notice which tells you how we use your data.
What happens next?
We will review your report. If required we will request an external contractor to visit and fix the issue.
We will attend emergency reports within 2 hours and non-urgent faults within 15 working days. However, during busy periods such as the winter months when the number of reported faults tends to increase, it can take longer.
If the fault is with the electricity supply, we will ask the electricity supplier to carry out the repair. In these cases, the timescales are out of our control, but their typical response time is up to 35 working days.
If you have a My Account, have left your contact details or have subscribed to updates on an issue, we will keep you informed of progress until the issue is resolved.
Other street lighting requests
We will evaluate other lighting and lamppost requests on a case by case basis, including:
- adding a street light
- moving a street light
- removing items from a lamppost
- maintenance of a lamppost (for example, painting to prevent corrosion)
Decisions are made based on the specific circumstances of each case. Not all requests will result in a change. Any action depends on safety requirements, technical feasibility, and the availability of funding.
