Update your Council Tax if someone moves in, out or turns 18
You must tell us when someone in your household turns 18 or if someone aged 18 or over moves in or out, as this may affect your bill.
- If the change means that only one person aged 18 or over is in the household, you can apply for single person discount.
- If someone turning 18 is a full-time student, you can apply for a student discount.
- If they are not a full-time student but you still receive child benefit for them, you can apply for a school leavers discount. Contact us in this instance.
- If someone aged 18 or over has moved in and you're no longer the sole occupant, you must cancel your single person discount. If the person is not counted for Council Tax purposes, they must apply for the relevant discount or exemption.
