Not received your green bin sticker?

If you have not received your sticker 15 working days after paying for your green bin collection service please request an update.

Green waste collections will resume from 27th February 2023.

Pay for green waste collection

All green bin collections in Liverpool must be paid for. Find out how to pay for your green waste collection and buy green bins.

How much is the fee?

We collect green bins between the first week of March and the last week of November each year. The annual fee for a green bin to be emptied once a fortnight during this period is £40 - this works out at £2 per collection.

The collection fee does not include the cost of a green bin itself.

Please note that the collection service is 'opt in' so you do not need to cancel it if you do not wish to pay for it.

Who can sign up for collections?

Anyone in Liverpool can pay for green waste collection, however, you must be able to store the bin in your property and present it on your collection day.

How many green bins can I have?

We will empty up to five garden waste bins from a residential property as long as they are presented safely.

How do I pay?

Please pay your annual fee using the online form below. You can also buy green bins at the cost of £20 each using this form.

You must pay an annual fee for each bin. £40 for the first bin, £35 for the second and £25 for each additional bin - up to the maximum of five.

Our online payments system uses 3D Secure 2, also known as Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode, for added security and fraud prevention. Please check with your card issuer that your debit or credit card is enabled for 3D Secure 2. This will reduce the likelihood of experiencing any issues during the transaction.

When you pay, you are agreeing to the terms and conditions of the green waste collection service.

The payment link is currently unavailable. Please return to this page to pay when the link is reinstated in February 2023.

Your privacy

Personal data collected via the online form above will be used solely for the purposes of delivering this service and will not be shared with any other council service, government agency or third party. It will not be used for marketing purposes. Your data will be stored securely.

What happens next?

You will be sent an information pack and a sticker in the post within 15 working days of payment. The sticker must be placed on the centre of the lid of your green bin. Only bins with a sticker will be collected.

If you still have not received your sticker within 15 working days, please request an update from us

When will my next collection be?

The paid for service restarts from Monday 27th February 2023.

Use our postcode look-up to see your green bin collection dates.

What if I can’t afford the fee?

If you are struggling financially and in urgent need we may be able to give you some support via the Liverpool Citizens Support Scheme.

Can I get a refund if you fail to collect my bin?

Missed collections are rare. If we are unable to collect your bin due to circumstances beyond our control we will return for it as soon as we can.

We cannot empty green bins that contain the wrong items, are too heavy or too full for the lid to close. If this happens we will place a sticker on the green bin with the reason it was left. Once you have dealt with the issue, please re-present the green bin on the next scheduled collection date.

What happens if my bin or sticker is lost, stolen or damaged?

Any bin damaged by us or our contractor will be repaired or replaced free of charge.

We will charge an administration and delivery fee to replace any lost, stolen or damaged bin along with a new sticker. If you find your lost bin you will need to let us know. Find out how to request a new bin.

Will I get a discount if I sign up part-way through the year?

You pay an annual fee from the date you sign up. For example, if you pay in July 2022, your second year payment is not due until June 2023.

Can I get a refund if I no longer want this service?

Following a 14-day cooling-off period, the fee is non-refundable. Please complete the form below if you wish to cancel your green waste collection service in the 14-day cooling off period and request a refund.

Request a refund within the 14-day cooling off period

Please note that the collection service is 'opt in' so you do not need to cancel it if you do not wish to pay for it.

Can I get a free green bin if I use it for leaves that have fallen from council-owned trees or my neighbour's trees?

No. The law states that a tree owner cannot be held liable for fallen leaves. If you don't wish to pay for a green bin, you can compost the leaves or take them to a recycling centre. We also routinely clear leaves from public areas such as public paths, highways and parks.

Consider composting

Composting is a great alternative to using your green and purple bins. Find out how to compost at home, join or set up a local community composting scheme.
