Illuminated and reflective traffic bollards
Illuminated and reflective traffic bollards are used to instruct drivers to 'keep left' or 'keep right' at busy junctions or traffic islands to avoid confusion, improve traffic flow and reduce accidents. If you spot an issue with an illuminated or reflective traffic bollard, please tell us.
Illuminated bollards use mains electricity to emit light. We are gradually replacing these with reflective bollards, which reflect headlight beams back to drivers, making them more energy efficient.

If a concrete bollard, black street furniture bollard or hydraulic bollard has been knocked down or is faulty, please report this via our street furniture form
What you can report
Issues or faults may include where an illuminated or reflective bollard is:
- dirty or faded, with minor damage
- cracked or broken
- leaning dangerously into the road
- major damage due to a road traffic accident
- dislodged or missing from the base
In addition, illuminated bollard faults may include:
- not lit
- lit all day
- wires exposed
Is it an emergency?
If the bollard is knocked over with wires exposed or missing from the base completely, these are a priority for us to fix. If you are not sure if the fault you are reporting is an emergency, see 'how to identify a lighting emergency' before contacting us.

If there is no immediate risk, please report it online.
How to report it
You can report non-emergency issues online.
To help us locate and understand the severity of the problem, provide a photo of the issue and surrounding landmarks, if you can. Only take a photograph if it is safe to do so.

What happens next?
Once you have submitted your request, we will review it. If required we will request an external contractor to visit and fix the issue.
We aim to attend emergency reports within 2 hours and repair it if we can. Most emergency faults normally require follow up repairs, so if we cannot fix it immediately, we will make it safe until we can arrange a full repair.
We will attend non-urgent reports within 15 working days. However, during busy periods such as the winter months when the number of reported faults tends to increase, it can take longer.
If the fault is with the electricity supply, we will ask the electricity supplier to carry out the repair. In these cases, the timescales are out of our control, but their typical response time is up to 35 working days.
We are gradually replacing illuminated traffic bollards with reflective traffic bollards. If, on inspection, an existing illuminated bollard cannot be repaired, we will replace it with a reflective bollard.
